The song “Silent Witness” from the CD Sandcastles, was written after I heard a true story about the legendary guitar player and inventor Les Paul, and his beloved wife, the singer Mary Ford. Apparently they divorced, partly from the strains of being in the music business together, and tragically, after Mary Ford passed away, Les Paul said that all they had really needed was a vacation… not a divorce. I wrote it from the perspective of the one who was “left behind”…. being watched by the one in Heaven… the “Silent Witness” who still cares and watches over their loved one. Les Paul actually got to hear the song, and told me he loved it. When I lived in New York I used to go down to the jazz club “Fat Tuesdays” to hear Les Paul play his guitar…what a performer, and what a great storyteller also!!!
SILENT WITNESS
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland
When I lay myself upon the sheets
I pray to the Lord my soul to keep
Every night before I fall asleep, I think of you
Somehow when the stars are in the sky
I have to wipe the tears that fill my eyes
Everytime your memory passes by, I break in two
because nothing has replaced you
and no one can fill your shoes
SILENT WITNESS, THOUGH DEATH DID PART US
NOTHING WILL SEPARATE OUR TWO HEARTS
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WATCHING IN MY SLEEP
I ALMOST CAN HEAR YOU BREATHE, SILENTLY
If I had it all to do again
I wouldn’t trade a single moment spent
Many times I sit remembering when, I fell for you
because life was never better
your love transformed this fool
SILENT WITNESS, THOUGH DEATH DID PART US
NOTHING WILL SEPARATE OUR TWO HEARTS
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WATCHING OVER ME
I ALMOST CAN HEAR YOU SPEAK
your photograph remains beside my bed
I know someday our eyes will meet again
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WATCHING IN MY SLEEP
SILENT WITNESS WATCHING OVER ME
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WAITING PATIENTLY, TO MEET IN ETERNITY
