Sixty Years

I wrote “Sixty Years” because I was trying to explain how, when you really love someone, no length of time you spend with them is ever enough….you always feel you could use more time. I also believe that it is only the two people in the relationship who really ultimately know and understand each other, hence the line “We’ll be a mystery, sharing a history,”….”that’s what real love is all about.”

Sixty Years
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

Looking forward and down the road
Knowing you’re by my side
Nothing can break me, you’ll always save me
Knowing that maybe you’ve sacrificed

Best foot forward, no turning back
Angels don’t always have wings
Just to know you, see, hear and hold you
I’ll remember these precious things

SIXTY YEARS WILL NEVER DO
I NEED MORE LIFETIMES TO SPEND WITH YOU
WHEN OUR LIVES ARE ALMOST THROUGH
SIXTY YEARS WILL FEEL LIKE TWO

Old people, with laughing eyes
One day, I have no doubt
We’ll be a mystery, sharing a history
That’s what real love is all about

(Repeat Chorus)

Deep Within the Fire

To me, “Faith” is the most important thing a person can have…because it requires a lessening, and eventually giving up, of the Ego. The “Holy Spirit” is the bond that ties God, Jesus, and all of us together….the Love that connects us all. In my song “Deep Within the Fire” I tried to convey the power of the Holy Spirit as the flames of healing…Heaven is a warm place, a place of healing. Hell is a cold place…a place where the soul is fixed in an icy state. Only when the flames of the Holy Spirit melts the soul on ice, can one be healed. When one has Faith, the needs of the soul are answered.

DEEP WITHIN THE FIRE
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

Jesus said don’t you worry ’bout your life,
What you will eat or drink God will provide
If you believe in the One on High

Look at the birds that fly upon the air,
They soar among the clouds without a care
The seeds that feed them will be always there

The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
The Trinity that will save the most

DEEP WITHIN THE FIRE IS THE HOLY SPIRIT CALLIN YOUR NAME
(within the fire Holy Spirit reaches out in a blaze)
DEEP WITHIN THE FIRE IS THE HOLY SPIRIT CALLIN YOUR NAME
(within the fire Holy Spirit shows the Light and The Way)

Ask and it will be given all to you,
Seek and you’ll find the Sacred Truth
Knock and the door will open wide for you

Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost,
The Trinity that will save the most

(repeat chorus)

Family of Man

I wrote “Family of Man” because I wanted to express the thought that all of us are running around like maniacs while the ship seems to be going down….and the things we should be paying attention to, we don’t, because we’re so busy with our daily lives. Meanwhile, “the lion stalks the lamb,” and if we begin to pay attention, we will begin to, as I say at the end of the song, start to love “Your brother (time to love your brother), one another (show love to one another),” which, really, is the only way to change things…with love…because we are all, when all is said and done, in the “Family of Man.”

FAMILY OF MAN
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

We celebrate, for what it’s worth
We are the actors in this show on earth
And everybody has got a part
Don’t need rehearsin’ know our lines by heart

Oh tell me why, we’re in a hurry
We all seem to have our own place on stage
Oh tell me why, why do we worry
When we could be wearin’ a happy face

OH…IN THE FAMILY OF MAN, IN THE FAMILY OF MAN
THE LION STALKS THE LAMB
IN THE FAMILY OF MAN

Bees in a hive, buzzin’ around
We’re makin’ honey as the ship goes down
Sweet Jesus hear us and throw a line
I know you’ll answer if we ask in time

‘Cause you know why, we’re in a hurry
We’re all really searchin’ for a better place
And you know why, why we are worried
We seem to be runnin’ out of time and space

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Up on high, there’s judge and jury
They know the solution to this troubled case
And in their eyes, the answer is surely
That love is the savior for the human race

Refrain:
Your brother (time to love your brother)
One another (Show love to one another)
Your brother (Time to love your brother)
One another (show love to one another)

Shalimar

The song “Shalimar,” from the CD Phoenix Rising, was written with the idea that true peace of mind comes from within… that in each of us is a sacred place where our souls reside… and in that place is where peace of mind can truly be found. In ancient India, from what I understand the gardens of Heaven were referred to as “Shalimar,” hence I used that word to describe that special, peaceful place.

SHALIMAR
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

All around the world
There’s a feeling, something’s going down
No one’s really sure
How to turn the madness around

If we could only we find
A sacred state of mind

SHALIMAR
IT ISN’T VERY FAR
AN OASIS OF THE HEART
SHALIMAR

A hunger in the soul
When the spirit doesn’t have enough
Sadness takes its toll
In the end the only cure is love

The answer’s deep inside
If we just take the time

SHALIMAR
IT ISN’T VERY FAR
AN OASIS OF THE HEART
SHALIMAR
SHALIMAR
NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE
EACH OF US IS PART
OF SHALIMAR

The truths we left behind are what we need to know

Silent Witness

The song “Silent Witness” from the CD Sandcastles, was written after I heard a true story about the legendary guitar player and inventor Les Paul, and his beloved wife, the singer Mary Ford. Apparently they divorced, partly from the strains of being in the music business together, and tragically, after Mary Ford passed away, Les Paul said that all they had really needed was a vacation… not a divorce. I wrote it from the perspective of the one who was “left behind”…. being watched by the one in Heaven… the “Silent Witness” who still cares and watches over their loved one. Les Paul actually got to hear the song, and told me he loved it. When I lived in New York I used to go down to the jazz club “Fat Tuesdays” to hear Les Paul play his guitar…what a performer, and what a great storyteller also!!!

SILENT WITNESS
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

When I lay myself upon the sheets
I pray to the Lord my soul to keep
Every night before I fall asleep, I think of you

Somehow when the stars are in the sky
I have to wipe the tears that fill my eyes
Everytime your memory passes by, I break in two

because nothing has replaced you
and no one can fill your shoes

SILENT WITNESS, THOUGH DEATH DID PART US
NOTHING WILL SEPARATE OUR TWO HEARTS
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WATCHING IN MY SLEEP
I ALMOST CAN HEAR YOU BREATHE, SILENTLY

If I had it all to do again
I wouldn’t trade a single moment spent
Many times I sit remembering when, I fell for you

because life was never better
your love transformed this fool

SILENT WITNESS, THOUGH DEATH DID PART US
NOTHING WILL SEPARATE OUR TWO HEARTS
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WATCHING OVER ME
I ALMOST CAN HEAR YOU SPEAK

your photograph remains beside my bed
I know someday our eyes will meet again

YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WATCHING IN MY SLEEP
SILENT WITNESS WATCHING OVER ME
YOU’RE MY SILENT WITNESS WAITING PATIENTLY, TO MEET IN ETERNITY

Prayer for Peace

The song Prayer for Peace, from the CD Peace in The Valley, opens with the phrase, “a cradle and a grave, a sandstone wall in sight, on a hill so far away, a city bathed in light…” I had visited Jerusalem many years ago, and I remember standing on a hill outside the walls of the city, and actually seeing a golden light emanating from the city…it blew me away, and so I decided to try to write a song that reflected my feelings about that experience. In another part of the song I wrote, “a vessel shaped by hand, a tapestry of white, the sandaled feet that walked the land where Prophets gave their lives,”….this had to do with all the Holy men and women who have walked the deserts of the Middle East, in search, ultimately, for Peace. This song is my prayer, in honor of those who have, and continue to, dream of Peace.

PRAYER FOR PEACE
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

A cradle and a grave
A sandstone wall in sight
On a hill so far away
A city bathed in light
And the doves that fly beyond the dome are
Heading for the sky
For the promise of the day, when all unite
All unite

All children of one God
Though separate in their faiths
They must fill their hearts with love
To find a better way
And the tears that fall behind closed doors
They will soon be dried
For the promise of the day, when all unite
All unite

A PRAYER FOR PEACE
PRAYER FOR PEACE

A vessel shaped by hand
A tapestry of white
The sandaled feet that walk the land
Where prophets gave their lives
The prayers that fill the desert air
In the dark of night
For the promise of the day, when all unite
All unite

A PRAYER FOR PEACE
PRAYER FOR PEACE
A PRAYER FOR PEACE
PRAYER FOR PEACE

One Plus One

The song, One Plus One, from the CD Crossroads, was written about betrayal… the betrayal by those who prey on and try to deceive the
innocent. The line I wrote, “One Plus One,” means there is no getting away from the facts of reality….as the old saying goes, if it “walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it usually IS a duck!”

ONE PLUS ONE
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

When we were kids there were stories
That gave us illusions
Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and Peter Pan

Little boys who fly on air
Boogie men hidin’ under the stairs
Imagination gave us a world we could bear

wanna believe in magic tricks but
I know it’s only in the fix ’cause

ONE PLUS ONE WILL ALWAYS EQUAL TWO
THOSE WHO TELL YOU NO WELL THEY’RE JUST FOOLS

As we grew up the stories
Soon became tales
Except for those who use them to capture & snare

with their magic tricks when
someone believes in them

ONE PLUS ONE WILL ALWAYS EQUAL TWO
THOSE WHO TELL YOU NO WELL THEY’RE JUST FOOLS

who’ll lead you on
don’t care if they’re right or wrong
they’re playin’ the piper’s song
leadin’ the children on

My Father

This particular song was one of the first I ever wrote, with words and melody coming at the same time…I sat down at the piano and it just came pouring out. My son was very young, and in the room, which I didn’t know. At the end of writing it, I could hear someone crying…I turned around and saw my son, and in-between tears he said to me, “That’s your father!!” He had such empathy for me…it was really touching. It took many years after that before I let my Dad hear the song….and thankfully, my Dad and I had some wonderful times together before he passed away. Happy Father’s Day, Dad.

MY FATHER
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

A man of the ocean
Rugged and free
My father kept his distance from the family
His four mainland children
Would climb in the trees
But never climb onto their father’s knees

OH WHEN WILL I KNOW HIM
WHEN CAN I SEE
THE MAN I IMAGINE MY FATHER TO BE
AS WE BOTH GROW OLDER
CAN HE BE MY FRIEND
OR WILL WE BE STRANGERS ‘ TIL THE VERY END

A memory of dancing
On solid ice
My father took me skating maybe twice
I practised without him
So he’d be proud
But he never saw me, falling down

OH WHEN WILL I KNOW HIM
WHEN CAN I SEE
THE MAN I IMAGINE MY FATHER TO BE
AS WE BOTH GROW OLDER
I HOPE WE’LL SURVIVE
TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES

Bridge: One thing’s for certain,
time hasn’t cured it
My heart is still
hurtin’ for his love
His love

OH WHEN WILL I KNOW HIM
WHEN CAN I SEE
THE MAN I IMAGINE MY FATHER TO BE
AS WE BOTH GROW OLDER
I HOPE WE’LL SURVIVE
TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES
TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES

Sailing Away

My father was a sailor….it was truly his passion. I tried to capture his love of the ocean and ships in this song, and the fact that though he has passed on now, we will, I believe, re-connect again someday. In one line of the song I write, “My soul will tell me how to navigate the night,”…I believe this is what will happen to all of us someday, when we pass on.

SAILING AWAY
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

The boat has left the shore, the harbor lights grow dim
Soon visible no more, I sail upon the wind
The solitude of night, beneath the watchful stars
With only lantern light, this boat will travel far

The whisper’s in the air, of sailors gone before
An ocean mist prepares, to open hidden doors
I tremble as I feel, the coolness of the tide
I take the Captain’s wheel, with angels by my side

OH SAIL, SAILIN’ AWAY
MY HEART IS NOT AFRAID
STAND FAST, COME WHAT MAY
WE’LL MEET AGAIN SOMEDAY
SAILIN’ AWAY

The moon shines through the clouds, and ripples on the bay
I hear the peaceful sound, of gliding through the waves
I point the starbird bow, beyond the watchhouse light
My soul will tell me how, to navigate the night

Two Hearts

In the song “Two Hearts” I begin it in a garden….that symbolizes Heaven. I move on to tell a story about two Souls that have stayed intertwined throughout Time, which is what I believe happens to people who really love one another. In the third verse where I say, “The clouds lift and the sky is blue, Angel’s whisper what they’re gonna do, Bring together these blessed two, to be found,” I believe that God has a hand in bringing people together….

Two Hearts
by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland

In a garden where the jasmine blooms
Underneath a sapphire moon
Two lovers with the Universe in their eyes

As they wander by a flowing stream
Open hands weaving crystal dreams
Making plans for the future days of their lives

Through time they’ve never let go
The past a circle that comes around
A dance that both of them know
They’ll meet again on solid ground

TWO HEARTS THAT BEAT AS ONE
THEIR JOURNEY’S ONLY BEGUN
TWO HEARTS THAT BEAT AS ONE
LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER

The clouds lift and the sky is blue
Angel’s whisper what they’re gonna do
Bring together these blessed two, to be found

Their souls will join once again,
When Heaven tells them where and when

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge: Let no man put asunder
Two lives so laced with wonder
What God has brought together, lasts forever…..
